Jay Dratton is the main victim from the 23rd case of the fourth season, "The Good Death".
Profile[]
He was a successful businessman in 1998 until he was diagnosed with brain tumor and became terminally ill. While he was still suffering and trying to grapling with his illness, he encountered many people during his sufferings, and giving them a bad treatment, including firing Harvey Sawyer, having an argument with his own wife, Caroline Dratton; disowning his son, Tommy Dratton; arguing verbally with Amelia Flores, and even suspecting his own friend and former business partner; Phil Wingeter.
However, when he totally unable to fought with his illness anymore, he repented for what he has done, by amending and discuss with Amelia about his illness and her daughter's death. He tried reaching out again to his son Tommy, reminding him as well about their past family bonding at Motel Louise in 1985, back when he was just a simple employee. On his last minutes, Jay also had a heart-to-heart talk with his wife, talking about everything, including Caroline's only made a fake affair with Phil, just to get Jay's attention. But in the end, Jay still did love Caroline all along, even the former does the same too. As Jay is already giving up, he gave a gesture signal to his own wife, discovered that he has six bottles of morphine inside his bag, as Amelia gave it to him. Caroline refused to do it, but Jay formally requested it for her that she must do what she had to do, as he was ready to die. The couple gave their "I love you" message with each other, and even if she was against euthanizing her husband, Caroline still does it as Jay requested, and reminding him about their past, and now being... a widow, as she finally euthanizes Jay and flatlined. As Jay died, she left the room, took out the picture and sobbed as she left Jay, no longer living.
His ghost was seen watching over his family from the bridge at Motel Louise, smiling at them before he fades away.
