Janice Burns is a minor character in "The Hitchhiker". She was a prostitute who was in an abusive relationship with Henry Floyd. Floyd was a trucker and typically out for days at a time, but when he was home, he would eat all of Janice's food and force himself on her. She didn't turn him over to the police in fear of his retaliation.
When Floyd ended up in police custody on suspicion of Matthew Mills's murder, Janice reveals her story after years of bottling it up. Floyd would be convicted of at least two other murders, but was found innocent of Matt's killing.
