Darren Kleeman was the biological father of Vanessa Prosser as a result of a fling with her mother and his ex-girlfriend, Carol Prosser, at their high school reunion. Since Carol was married, he initially didn't know about Vanessa and wasn't involved in her life.
In 2004 upon discovering Vanessa was his daughter, Darren became obsessed with solving her murder, and came close to the truth. However, before he could report his findings, he was murdered by Abbey Lake. His death inadvertently reopened Vanessa's case and led to her murder being solved.
