Clyde Taylor was the victim in "Colors". He was discovered by Joe "Crumbs" Crumbly and became a Negro League baseball player.

In 1945, Clyde and some other players like Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson and Jackie Robinson were put together in an exhibition game against some major league players. Some of them could get signed if they were good enough. Clyde had to deal with a racist on the opposing team, Tyler Cage (though they buried the hatchet later), his teammate Moody Brown intimidating him and the team owner Willie Dandridge blackmailing him to take a dive.

Clyde was in a secret relationship with Esther Davis, a (seemingly) white showgirl. Crumbs told her to dump Clyde so nothing can hold him back from the majors. Clyde was livid after finding out what Crumbs did. Fed up with all the pressure, he decided to quit baseball to be with Esther. Clyde was then bludgeoned by Crumbs with his own baseball bat. For years, it was assumed that his murder was a hate crime, with Tyler as the primary suspect.

In 2005, Will Jeffries and John Stillman were guilted into reopening Clyde's case by Jeffries' nephew, Leonard Hughes. After the case is solved, Clyde's spirit appears to Jeffries while he is watching Leonard play little league.
